A law I fully applaud

Okay, so I probably should have known this and been on top of it a couple of months ago...
But I just learned in an aggression management class at work that since June, it is now a felony for a patient to assault any health care provider. That's a wonderful deal, because it used to be just doctors, police and firefighters.

Sadly, this is all too pertinent. People just aren't nice all the time, even to those of us that are trying to help them.

You're Welcome.

Look, lady. I didn't have to let you in. The four cars ahead of me didn't, but I chose to be the nice one. Despite the repeated communication from the school saying not to come in that way, despite the fact that I've detoured from my normal, more convenient route to follow the rules.

Not a wave, or a smile, or a nod to acknowledge?

Entitled douchebag.

Reassimilating

Kids and I had a great week in Idaho. We're all glad to be home though... I was telling him last night, I'm glad he's a retired naval officer and not active duty still, because I miss him so much after just a few days that I'd be a total basket case after much longer. :-) I like the guy a lot, what can I say??

Some more photo potpourri from the week:

An early birthday present from mom and the kids: a flat of Bear Lake raspberries that became nine pints of jam and a tasty snack with cream and sugar one night...

Old fashioned malts, sodas, ice cream, and cherry ironports at the oldest drug store in Idaho, still with a functioning soda counter, much to my middle-aged delight (although the big jars of penny candy now are 2-cent candy...boo...)

Kids put handprints and initials in a little piece of cement adjacent to mom and dad's new front porch...

A night of old home movies... The kids got to see what a cute baby I was, and the drill team feats of flexibility and dropping to the floor that are to blame for my cracking knees and ankles ("owww! No wonder, mom!!")

Cheese curds I found at Qwik Stop ("Mom, I'm not sure I trust cheese from a gas station," says Hayley. Yummmm, more for me.

And tooling around with Pappa on various modes of transportation, as they were...

Lots of fun. And all the boys can talk about is "When can we go back to Lava?"

At the drive-in, just like the olden days

I don't know how many drive-in theaters are left, but it's a shame they're dwindling. Lucky for us, one is still fully operational here in Soda Springs, and beautifully, still has the original speakers

so the kids can appreciate the scratchy monaural audio. For a minute, then we can tune to 89.1 and actually hear synchronized audio. Best of both worlds.

Thanks, Jeff and Shauna. This place rocks. Please don't let it die.

Them's my boys...

A fun day of playing and keeping cool... And making mom nervous.

(oh, yes, the mid-air ones are mine)

Requisite Geyser Soaking

When you're in the shadow of the world's only captive geyser, there's all kinds of photographic fun to be had:

They're all having fun.  And so am I.

Kicking back

It's sunset, starting to cool off, the kids are having a blast - and I'm sitting in Dad's garden under the apple and plum trees, smelling the dill and onions, and munching peas right off the vines.
The only way this could be any better is if my sweetheart was right here next to me.

Highway hypnosis

In the home stretch now, an hour or so to go...and they're toast again. It's been a fabulously east drive, though.

Techy.

Cruising west with iphone soundtrack on shuffle. GPS pegs us at destination at 1:58. Scott, my parents, and Jordan's mom
can track us in real-time by phone or computer. One kid is listening to his mp3 player, and the other three are pic-to-chatting on their Nintendo DS's. OnStar at the ready if we need it. Holy shit, that's a lot of technology packed into this little 78-mph space.

Like a herd of turtles

We're off.

Hayley, Jordan, Kyle, Gabe and I are headed to Idaho for one last blast of summer fun while Scott's off to Sturgis.

Four kids, ten hours.

Egad. :-)

Digital nostalgia...

Today, I downloaded King's Quest for the kids. They're loving it, and it reminds me exactly of Brian and me, playing for hours when we were about the same ages.
